Strange

There is an unusual phenomenon that we have observed since being here is San Diego. It shocks us. It catches us off guard every time it occurs. We have dealt with it over and over and are now ready to reveal it to the rest of the world. Are you ready? Picture this... you are talking with someone that you just met, whether it is at someones door that you knocked on doing surveys, or a parent at the park with their kids. The conversation comes around to the question you have been waiting for...Why did you move here? or What brought you to San Diego? You would expect this to be the obvious lead-in to a conversation about this great new church you are starting, a church that will change the person's life! But, when you answer their question, that is the moment this strange thing happens....THEY STOP TALKING TO YOU!! So...we obviously need a new approach.

Joey was knocking on doors a couple of weeks ago doing surveys and had an interesting conversation with a man. What this man said was enlightening. "I love me some Jesus, but I hate me some church." It seems that people don't have an issue with Jesus; they may not fully understand who He is or what He has done for them, but they don't have a problem with Him. But they seem to have a big problem with the church. People have told us repeatedly that they are not religeous, that they would never look for a church to attend. What has happen in our churches that causes people to be so turned off just by hearing the word "church"?

What is our new approach? Jesus. The Vintage Jesus. Getting back to a biblical view of who Jesus is and what His life was for. Instead of the starting point being to invite people to a church service, the starting point will be to introduce them to who Jesus is. Please continue to pray for the people here that God intends to bring to Himself, and pray for us as He uses us in the process. Pray that God would give us a supernatural boldness to speak the name of His Son.
