My grandmother's birthday also happens to fall during fair week, so we had her 92nd birthday there this year.

Our Texas Trip - County Fair and Birthday Girl
Every year the town I grew up in has their County Fair. The first picture shows our family's "camp" that was built many generations ago. Back then, when you rode your wagon in to town for the fair, you would stay all weekend at your camp - eating, sleeping, spending time with friends and family. Now the camp is a gathering place for our family during the fair each summer.

Our Dryer Died
Not that you want to look at our laundry.... but are those not the cutest socks and underwear ever? Corban definitely has a theme going. When he was a little guy, his Nana bought him a ride-on Mater. He has worn out two of those, pushing and riding them everywhere. Now he calls Cars the "Race car movie".
Our dryer was toast for over two weeks. After a week of hanging the clothes on a fence to dry, I got industrious and bought a clothesline which Caden and I hung from the tree to the fence. Thankfully Joey came to the rescue with a wonderful working dryer!

Goodbye Marty!!
Last summer we had 6 wonderful interns who came here to San Diego and helped us get our first church started. Marty was one of those, but he never left. He stayed here this past year, continuing to help with Mission Trails Church and also helping us with Stonelake. The kids LOVED when it was the day for Marty to come over. Corban would play the Wii with him, and Caden and Carson would take him to "hit the slopes" (ride their bikes and scooters really fast down our hill). We miss you Marty!! The next day after we told you goodbye Carson said, "I'm sad Marty is gone....he was my best friend."
Julian
Several weeks ago, our family and several others from church went to Julian, a historic gold-mining town that is also famous for it's apple pies. We ate downtown at one of the little diners and then went panning for gold! We all had fun looking for treasure. We ended up with more fool's gold than we did the real thing.

An Update in Pictures
I have come across several pictures that I meant to blog about over the past few weeks but never did. So here they are, all in one super-long post.
First, our tarantula. I actually caught this guy all by myself. The boys and Joey were gone to kung fu, and I was getting ready for our women's life group. I pulled a sign out of the trailer, and as I was walking back, I almost stepped on him. He had just caught a lizard and was sitting there munching on it. I knew the boys would want to see him, so I did what any mom of boys would do. I got the lid to an old grill and set it on top of him. But then I had to figure out how to move him because it was right where everyone would be parking. So, I took a piece of cardboard, slid it under the lid, and moved it all to the back porch. The boys loved it. We kept it for several days before letting it go. In the picture, there is a quarter just in front of him under the sand...that shows you how huge he was.
Next...our worms. We have a vermicomposting bin full of worms that we add our kitchen scraps to. We started off with a couple of hundred, but they have already tripled in number. They are red wigglers. Our intention was to use the compost to make a garden, but it hasn't happened yet.
Here are Caden's chickens. We got these little guys when they were a few weeks old. This picture was taken a couple of months ago. They are double this size now. They still sit on Caden's shoulders. When he sits down outside, they come and sit with him. I love the picture of Caden doing his math with the chickens cuddled up to him.
And here is Carson's cat. It shows up every morning for some food and snuggle time with Carson. Then it is gone all day until dinner time.
We took the boys fishing a few weeks ago. Corban was the most excited about the fishing trip. We didn't catch anything!
Lastly, several weeks ago Stonelake had baptisms at the beach. Here are pictures of the group that Joey baptized, our church family that came, Joey getting instructions from the life guards, Joey catching some waves, and the boys playing with their friends.
